I've begun to read John Paul II's Theology of the Body using the Waldstein translation:

.... and wanted a place to jot down my observations... and perhaps someday get some feedback about this amazing topic..... if anyone actually joins this forum, I'll assemble these notes and attempt to encourage a group study.

OK.... Part One: The Words of Christ

It is a focus on "begining" from MT 19:3-8 refering to Gen 1:27 and Gen 2:24... intended to lead the Pharisees (and us) to reflect on the abiding nature of marriage.

*JP calls the talks here (TOB 2:1) a "cycle of reflections"....

*TOB 2:1 "well-defined context" gives great example of JPII style biblical exegesis.

*begins with critical analysis of the two creation accounts - refering to the first account as "more mature"... before all else, SCRIPTURE is analyized and studied...

*4:1 Reference to original state of grace should always go hand in hand with any "begining" reference to "original sin"....

** The main thing I take from my reading of the first few chapters is a renewed awe and respect fro JPII. He has such a way of opening up the layers of scripture that are simply inspiring. I've always read the two creation stories as something that needed to be defended against atheists and others who are looking to attack our faith because of apparent "contradictions" like these. Never for a moment did I catch the point that man, while in a state of grace, was in fact quite alone. Incredible insight and an example of how much I need to continue my study of this great man.

One thing I've noticed is that most references to TOB seem to describe it as merely a abstinance "program".... TOB is a theology first and foremost, and I think those people out there who simply use the teaching as a way to preach to teens on sexual morality are missing the depth of this wonderful work.
